What are the Atom Photo Requirements?

To guarantee your images align with both customer expectations and Atom's criteria:

Multiple Photos: Include at least one photo for each profile. Optimize exposure by supplying up to 10 photos. Organize photos in Atom so your most compelling appears first.

File Size: Photo file size must be under 10MB.

Image Size: Photos should be at least 1600 x 1200 pixels. This is the equivalent to iPhone 3 quality. For professionally taken photos, request high-resolution files.

Orientation: Only photos in landscape orientation will be accepted.

Content: Ensure photos accurately represent your Atom profile and tourism offerings. We cannot accept photos with logos, posters or text in images. Allow bleed space around the edges to make sure nothing important gets cut off if the image is cropped.

Copyright: You must have appropriate Copyright for your photos. This means you either own or have the right to use all photos on your own platforms as well as Atom's distribution websites. Reference copyright and photographers when necessary.

In tourism, pictures are crucial for grabbing people's attention to showcase your experience. That's why we've set high standards. These standards ensure your business looks its best on the 250+ partner websites that Atom provides content for. Each site has different designs, layouts, and displays. Having consistently formatted images makes your profile look better and makes it easier to represent across all these platforms.

What Photos are Most Engaging?

The most engaging photos are those that offer your customers a vivid visual journey into your experience.

For optimum results for your Atom Profile:

Experiential Imagery: Show people immersing themselves in your offering to give customers a more immersive and enticing preview of what your offerings entail. While helpful for trip planning, images without a human element should be secondary in your Profile.

High Quality Landscape-Orientation Images: Ensure superior image quality across all Atom partner websites so customers receive the best visual representation of your offerings and entice clicks.

Relevant to your Offering: To manage expectations, it's key that images acurately represent your offering.

Do I need to have copyright of the photos shared?

Yes, Copyright Infringment is very serious, and costly.

Protect your business by making sure you have the right to use and share photos on your own channels as well as Atom's distribution network.

Either confirm you own the photos, or seek written permission from the photo owners. Ensure both parties are clear on where and how the photos can be used.

What is Alt Text?

Alt Text, or 'Alternative Text' is important for three reasons:
- It is used for visually impaired screen reader users
- It displays if images don't load correctly
- It's an important SEO tool as it is indexed by search engines.

Alt Text is mandatory for all images on your ATOM profile.
Effective Alt Text is clear, concise and includes relevant keywords for SEO. Examples of Alt Text are provided below.

How should I order my Photos?

Distributor websites will prioritise your images in the same way they appear on your profile. So put your best foot forward by putting your best images to the top. Rearrange photos by clicking, holding, and dragging to their preferred positions on the grid.

Why do my photos need to be so large?

Using the larger dimensions ensures better image quality across all Atom partner websites. This ensures that customers receive the best visual representation of your offerings, enhancing their experience and engagement.

Why can't my photos have text?

It's likely that your photos do not meet Atom's Photo Guidelines. To make sure they meet all the criteria, simply check the on-screen help when uploading, or refer to the Photo Guidelines and Help Sheet.

What Photos are Unacceptable?

Atom has specific requirements that must be met for your photos to be accepted. To ensure compliance, avoid the following:

Orientation: Avoid Portrait orientation
Photo Quality: Avoid low resolution, pixelated, blurry photos or images smaller than 1600 x 1200 pixels
Large File Size: Files larger than 10MB
Text or Logos
Breach of Copyright
Irrelevant: Photos that are irrelevant to your offering.
Sensitive Content: This includes dangerous activities, inappropriate interactions with animals, nudity, inappropriate gestures or content that is not acceptable for various audiences demographics.

Where possible, avoid the following:

- People looking at the camera
- Cluttered backgrounds
- Photos taken on mobile phones
- Illustrations
- Oversaturated, black and white or extreme filters

Elevate the visual appeal of your Atom profile with free, high-resolution photos from your STO.

Follow the links provided for each STO Photo Library. Operators will need to register for access. Then explore the resources and select the most relevant and compelling photos. Be sure to specify your usage details. Your STO team will review and respond.

Once approved, confirm distribution rights and comply with copyright rules, like crediting the photographer.
